Hello , I have been out of nursing for 10 years and only worked bedside for 1 year before taking a break. Can you recommend a nursing refresher course online ? Can you recommend books that would be helpful?

Why do nondoctors think that doctors don't take into account holistic, social and other factors when interacting with patients? It amazes me that they are so ignorant of reality.

I am a MSW, LSW leaving the profession for nursing. I feel there are more opportunities for growth and my SW degree will make me a great nurse and provide patients the best care and outcomes. SWs also get dumped on and are pressed to find solutions that honestly cannot be easily achieved due to the very nature of what we do. Nursing is a bit more cut and dry and that direct care experience is invaluable. SWs also tend to work 9-5 jobs and are salaried and don't get paid overtime when working beyond their shift, where nurses get that hourly pay and OT!

I have developed PTSD from medical trauma as a result of my lifetime of hospitalisation. The best experiences I've had are nurses and doctors who provided this style of care and also offered me choices in my care that were important despite seeming otherwise trivial

One thing I’m really concerned about is the emergency department sending patients up without a report 😑. It’s a significant safety issue IMO. We're receiving patients from the ER with no report, often arriving just 15-30 minutes before the change of shift, accompanied only by the transporter SMH. I'm so glad you do these podcasts, especially for first-year nurses-this is golden advice!

Serial BMP is necessary because correcting low sodium can impact the other electrolytes and a BMP enables you to monitor multiple ones consistently.
